A snake has won a lengthy battle with a crocodile in northern Queensland, wrestling it, constricting it and then finally eating it. The incident at Lake Moondarra, near Mount Isa, was captured on camera by local residents on Sunday. The 10-ft snake, thought to be a python, coiled itself around the crocodile and the two struggled in the water. The snake later brought the dead crocodile onto land and ate it. Tiffany Corlis, a local author, saw the fight and took these pictures, which have been widely used in the Australian media. "It was amazing," she told the BBC. "We saw the snake fighting with the crocodile - it would roll the crocodile around to get a better grip, and coil its body around the crocodile's legs to hold it tight." A visit by a four-metre crocodile closed Broome's Cable Beach on Saturday. The reptile was spotted around midday and stayed in the area for about seven hours. Rangers and wildlife officers closed the beach and kept a crowd of onlookers at a safe distance. The beach has now been reopened. Sharon Scoble said the crocodile seemed to surfing in the waves offshore. She said she was in awe at the sight of it. "Oh he was huge," she said. "I mean, you see them in wildlife parks and whatever but to see one just cruising around the ocean was absolutely humbling."

Panic has gripped the northern Indian town of Meerut where a leopard is on the loose, officials said. Schools and colleges are shut and a high alert has been sounded in the town, which is a two-hour drive from the capital, Delhi. The animal entered a hospital on Sunday and was locked in a room for a few hours before it escaped, reports said. Large numbers of policemen have been deployed and wildlife experts have been called in to help capture the animal. "We have closed schools and colleges in the town because we are unable to locate the leopard and do not want to take any chances. This is only a precautionary measure," district magistrate Pankaj Yadav told BBC Hindi. "We are yet to locate the leopard. We have got calls from some areas but are still unable to trace its exact location," district forest officer Sushant Kumar said. Surrey RCMP are appealing to the public for help in identifying the suspect of a disturbing acid attack last September they believe was targeted. On Sept. 7 at approximately 10:30 a.m., police responded to Sinclair's Motorsports in the 13400 block of 71A Avenue in Surrey, after owner Tammy Sinclair reported someone she thought was a customer threw a jar full of hydrochloric acid in her face. "I remember talking to the gentleman, I remember something getting thrown at me and me going back, and I couldn't breathe," she said. Sinclair said it damaged her eyesight, and scarred her face and neck.
